Vibe Notes: It’s essentially a “Topgolf for locals”—a casual, high-energy spot that’s great for hanging out but can feel a bit rough around the edges. The Toptracer tech and late-night lights make it the go-to social hub for South Bay golfers. It is consistently packed, the mats/balls are often worn out, and the service can be hit-or-miss “muni” style. Go for the fun tech and the post-range beer at Yard 408, but expect a wait and a “no-frills” public facility atmosphere.

Your First Visit (Step-by-Step)

Parking
1) Enter the Facility: Turn off Oakland Road into the main entrance for the San Jose Municipal Golf Course. 2) Choose Your Lot: -The Upper Lot (Best for the Range): As you enter, look for the lot immediately adjacent to the driving range building. This is the most convenient spot if you are only there to practice, but it fills up quickly, especially on weeknights and weekends. -The Lower Lot (Overflow/Clubhouse): If the upper lot is full, continue down toward the main clubhouse and Yard 408 restaurant. This lot is larger and typically has more availability. 3) Find a Spot: The parking lot is wheelchair accessible and offers standard-sized spaces. Tip: If parking in the lower lot, you can enjoy a brief walk past the resident “course cats” that often hang out in the nearby bushes.
1) Head to the Range Building: From the upper parking lot, walk directly to the double-deck driving range structure. 2) Locate the Ball Dispenser: The automated ball machine is situated in the central area of the driving range building, usually near the stairs to the second deck. 3) Select Your Bucket Size: Choose from the three available sizes: small, medium, large 4) Choose Your Payment Method – At the Machine: Use the NFC reader for contactless payments like Apple Pay, Google Pay, or tap-to-pay credit/debit cards. -In the Pro Shop: If you prefer to pay with cash or want to buy a prepaid range card, visit the Pro Shop in the main clubhouse first. They will provide you with a code or token to use at the machine. 5) Position Your Bucket: Grab one of the provided plastic range buckets nearby and place it under the dispenser chute before completing your payment. 6) Dispense Balls: Once payment is processed, the machine will drop the balls into your bucket.
