Vibe Notes: “Senior’s Delight”: Many reviews highlight that because it is situated in a Sun City retirement community, the atmosphere is geared toward seniors—meaning it is highly forgiving, has few daunting hazards, and is widely accessible for recreational play. Casual and Unpretentious: Golfers often describe the staff and overall environment as “warm,” “casual,” and “unpretentious”. One reviewer on Greenskeeper even noted a “cool” starter who rolled up playing AC/DC. The “Muni” Feel at a Higher Price: Frequent players often categorize it as a “high-end muni” (municipal-style) experience—fun and playable, but sometimes lacking the meticulous maintenance of private clubs. Busy Community Hub: Expect to see many residents in modified personal golf carts. Because it’s a popular local spot, the pace of play can sometimes be “beyond slow” on weekends, leading to five- or six-hour rounds. “Ego Booster” Layout: Reviewers on Tripadvisor often call the course an “ego booster” because the fairways are wide and the layout is straightforward, making it a “fan favorite” for high handicappers who want a pleasant day without losing many balls.

Your First Visit (Step-by-Step)

Parking
Step 1: Entrance – Enter via Sun City Lane. You’ll see the large Orchard Creek Lodge building straight ahead. Step 2: The Lot – The parking lot is massive. Park as close to the right side of the building (if you are facing it) as possible. This is the side closest to the Pro Shop and the “Cart Barn.” Step 3: Bag Drop – If you are playing a round, there is a circular turnaround right in front of the Pro Shop entrance where you can drop your clubs before parking. If you’re just hitting the range, most people just carry their bag from their car.
Step 1: Buying Range Balls – You cannot buy balls directly at the range with a credit card; you must go to the Pro Shop first. Step 2: Enter the Pro Shop – Located on the ground level of the lodge building, facing the golf courses. Step 3: Purchase – Tell the attendant which size bucket you want (Small, Medium, or Large). Step 4: The Receipt/Code – They will give you a paper receipt with a 6-digit pin code printed on it. Tip: Take a photo of the code with your phone just in case you lose the slip walking to the range. Step 5: Walk to the Machine – Exit the Pro Shop and follow the path toward the practice greens. The large ball dispensing machine is located right next to the start of the driving range. Step 6: Dispense – Place a range basket (stacked next to the machine) under the chute, type in your code, and press “Enter.”
staff
Step 1 – Finding a Spot at the Range: The range at Lincoln Hills is an open-style line rather than individual “stalls” with dividers. Step 2 – Check the Signs: Look for a small sign at the entrance of the range grass/mats. It will tell you if today is a “Mats Only” day or a “Grass” day. Step 3 – Pick a Station (ON MATS or ON GRASS): ON MATS: Find an open mat. Most mats have rubber tees already inserted, but you can bring your own “reusable” plastic tees that fit into the mat holes if you prefer a specific height. ON GRASS: Find a spot between the two yellow ropes or markers. These ropes are moved daily to ensure the grass stays healthy. Make sure you are hitting from behind the front rope. Step 4 – Orientation: Stand so you are hitting toward the target flags in the field. There are no assigned numbers; it is first-come, first-served. Step 5 – Etiquette: Keep your bag a few feet behind you so other golfers can walk safely behind the hitting line. Pro Tip: If the main range is packed, check the chipping green (located slightly further down). It often has its own smaller bucket of “shag” balls, or you can use your own to practice your short game for free.
