Course Notes: ---Hardest Aspects: ---Hole #6 - The Signature Challenge: According to Tournament Director Tom Schlichting, the toughest hole is the 6th, which requires golfers to negotiate Stevens Creek off the tee, then avoid numerous bunkers en route to a slightly hidden green to the right, guarded by pine, oak, and sycamore trees. ---Tree-Lined Fairways: The front nine features significant tree overhang creating narrow corridors that demand accuracy off the tee. Reviews consistently mention trees as the primary defense, with "many trees overhanging parts of the fairway" requiring creative shot-making. ---Tiered, Domed Greens: The greens feature considerable undulation with multiple tiers. Reviews describe them as "domed greens that require you to have just the right speed in your putts" running at medium to fast speeds. ---Tight Course: The layout is described as "pretty tight" with limited opportunities to use longer clubs like drivers. Accuracy is paramount over distance. ---Stevens Creek in Play: The creek winds throughout the course and comes into play on multiple holes, adding strategic complexity and penalty areas. ----------------------------------------------------------------- ---Easiest Aspects: ---Perfect for Beginners: Deep Cliff is widely recommended as "a good starting point for beginners" and "a great course to perfect iron play". The short yardage and executive layout reduce intimidation for new golfers. ---Walker-Friendly: The course is comfortable and easily walked with flat terrain and manageable distances. It's described as an "easily walked course". ---Excellent for Short Game Practice: With 12 par 3s, the course provides outstanding opportunities to practice iron play and approach shots. Perfect for golfers working on their short game. ---Youth on Course Program: Junior golfers can play for just $5 after 1pm seven days a week through the Youth on Course program, making golf accessible to young players. ---Forgiving Executive Layout: While challenging, the course offers recovery options and doesn't punish high handicappers as severely as full-length championship courses.
