Spring Valley Golf Course is a public 18-hole golf facility located in the scenic Milpitas foothills, approximately 10 miles from San Jose Airport in Northern California. Originally opened in 1956 and designed by Ray Anderson, the course has undergone significant renovations over the years, including a multi-million dollar clubhouse renovation from 2003-2005 and greenside bunker renovations in 2016. Most recently, the facility completed a major driving range expansion and renovation, growing from 22 stalls to 29 stalls.

Spring Valley offers a challenging yet fair test of golf set in the panoramic Milpitas foothills. The layout features:​

Signature/Challenging Holes

Hardest Holes:

Hole 6 (Par-5, 515 yards): The #1 handicap hole – dogleg right with large trees guarding the fairway. Missing right brings trees into play making par difficult.​

Hole 9 (Par-4, 417 yards): First of three holes over water. Requires carrying the lake to reach the green. Beautiful but challenging finishing hole for the front nine.​​

Hole 11 (Par-3, 199 yards): Long par 3 over a large lake. Must carry 145 yards just to reach the fairway across water.​​

Hole 13 (Par-4): Features one of the most difficult greens in the area with an extreme right-to-left slope that creates putting nightmares.​

Hole 18 (Par-4, 403+ yards): Final hole also plays over the lake – essentially a carbon copy of Hole 9 but slightly longer. Requires precision to avoid water.​​

Green Complexity: Holes 4, 5, and especially 13 feature extremely challenging greens with severe slopes and undulations. Many greens have illusions where putts that appear uphill are actually flat or downhill.​

Easier Holes

Hole 7 (Par-3): The #18 handicap (easiest) hole on the course. Flat green with straightforward approach, though often plays into wind.​

Hole 5 (Par-4): Short hole where long hitters can reach or get close to the green off the tee. Real birdie opportunity.​

General Course: Wide-open fairways and generous landing areas make the course forgiving for wayward tee shots. Most par 4s are under 400 yards from white tees, and par 5s are reachable for average players.
